The RISE & STARS Community Center and its programs are open to all VHA subsidized housing residents. The community center is located at 500 Omaha Way, Vancouver, in the VHA's Skyline Crest subsidized housing development. New things are happening all the time. Programs for Youth
Boys and Girls Club — Heights OK 2 Clubhouse
Boys and Girls Club provides young people with a fun, safe, and constructive after-school environment. They offer programs and services designed to build character and strengthen life skills. Programming centers around three core areas-academic success, healthy lifestyles and good character and citizenship. The Heights OK 2 Clubhouse is a safe place where young people can come and enjoy themselves and their friends. Club members have a opportunities to learn, give back to the community, discover their interests, set goals, and meet new friends. BGC offers a wide range of fun activities, from simple games to leadership projects!
The Skyline Crest Campus of Learners program partners extensively with the Boys and Girls Club to offer services and programs to residents of the community.
Campus of Learners Program — Skyline Crest Residents Only
At Skyline Crest, we work with residents to build a thriving community around the goal of academic success. Campus of Learners activities are designed to support nationally recognized qualities all children need to thrive. If you have school-aged children in your household, a Campus of Learners staff will meet with your family at least once a year to provide resources and help you identify activities you and your children can do to increase their academic success. The Community Center additionally offers events, classes and volunteer opportunities to involve you and your family, as well as an inclusive and wide-ranging after school program for youth.
Skyline Crest Community Health Advocate Program
Community Health Advocates plan and facilitate community events and activities that are educational, fun, and meaningful to you and your families. Activities include classes on nutrition & gardening, exercise groups and classes on health related topics.
Programs for Adults
The RISE & STARS Community Center offers opportunities for your entire family to learn new skills, connect with resources, and meet new friends. We have many unique opportunities for you to get involved as volunteers. Nutrition classes, craft classes and field trips are offered.
The Computer Lab is available for you to use. This service includes Internet access. The lab is also available for students to do homework and research, and is often used by adults for employment search.
Play & Learn
Early learning plays a big role in school success. Play and Learn is a program for parents and children ages 0 to 5 years old. You and your children will participate in fun, age appropriate activities. You will have a chance to learn more about how early brain development and ways you can encourage your children to develop the skills they need. Join us for snacks, crafts and activities on Mondays from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
The Community Center sponsors a number of family events throughout the year. Barbeques, game nights, holiday celebrations and the like are all opportunities to bring families together to enjoy some safe, inexpensive fun. Check Facebook to see what’s planned next. We’d love to see you there!
